Our Reformer Classes

What is Reformer?
A lot of people have never heard of the Reformer and we always think of Pilates as being done on a Mat. However, Pilates originally started on the Pilates equipment. Joseph Pilates the founder of the Pilates movement wanted to find a way that people who were in hospital could exercise and maintain their strength. He came up with the idea of attaching springs to the hospital beds. This progressed into the development of the Pilates method and the equipment such as the Reformer that we use today.
The Reformer is a bed with a moving carriage. It has a series of springs attached to the carriage that can be adjusted to provide assistance or resistance to the movements. It is a great way to strengthen but also increase your body awareness and control. Exercises can be performed in a variety of positions to work different areas of the body. At Physio 2 Pilates we are lucky to have the Allegro II Reformers.
What Are The Benefits?
The Reformer provides a fantastic workout. It is ideal if you want to work on strengthening and toning as the added resistance of the springs can create more of a challenge. The great thing about it though is you can tailor it to the level you want to work at by adding or reducing the number of springs for any particular exercise. Exercises can work on balance, strength and flexibility, working the whole body. The Pilates Reformer is used by a wide range of people from those suffering from back pain to those in elite sports. Most importantly it is great fun!
Before You Book
We want you to get the most out of attending our sessions. The more we know about you, including your goals and any injuries or medical conditions, the more we can help. For this reason we require you to attend a 50 minute individual consultation with one of our Physiotherapists, before joining a class. This ensures that we are able to find the right class at the right level to suit your needs. We will also show you the safe use of the Pilates Reformer.
